New Favorite Restaurant

I've been in Maryland for almost five years now.  When someone asks me where do I want to eat or where is my favorite restaurant, I have no answer for them.  The closest answer for me was Kolache Kreations, a kolache place opened by some Texans from Houston.  Although I love eating their food, that place is a bakery, not a restaurant.  To me, people in Maryland can't cook.  The only food they seem to do well are crabs and crab related dishes.  BBQ??  Forget about it.  Anyone who puts "boil" and "BBQ" in the same sentence needs to stop making BBQ. That seems to be popular up here.

Anyway, I've been hearing about this place called Hill Country. It's supposed to remind me of Texas and have great BBQ. I'm kind of skeptical, but I figure I'll check it out and see if they've got what it takes.

I finally went there yesterday.  This place is Texas to the heart.  They got longhorns on the bar.

They have old Texas license plates everywhere.

They got all the Texas shaped neon signs above the bar.

They even have Texas related bathroom signs!!!

And the BBQ?  The test for me is brisket.  Every place else makes good everything else as far as BBQ is concerned (ribs, pulled pork, hot links, etc.), but brisket is a Texas thing.  So I got some just to see if it tastes like what I grew up with.

It was great!!  They even give you two pieces of light bread (yes I said light bread) to go with it.  See all that grease and stuff??  Apparently, some people (northern people and people that don't are scared of fat) want their brisket without all the fat and that's available for purchase.  But that's just crazy talk to me; the fat is the good part.  The brisket was delicious.  I HAVE to go back.  They even have Blue Bell ice cream and Big Red soda. Mmmmmmmmm!!!!

I now have a favorite restaurant up here.  So if you're ever in DC, go check out Hill Country.  You will not be disappointed.
